Knitting podcasts are one of my favorite things to watch. I typically check to see if there are new episodes of my favorites before turning on a movie or show.
I live in a knitting dessert. I have no LYS (Local Yarn Store), and no friends who knit regularly. Knitting podcasts are a way that I feel connected to other knitters, even if it’s not a two-way conversation. I pretend I’m at a knit night at a LYS listening to the other knitters tell me what they’re making.
Knitting Podcasts vs. Vlogs
First, let me explain. In the kniiter-verse, knitting videos on YouTube are called podcasts. Knitting podcasts are in the format of one or more knitters sitting in front of the camera, talking about and showing off their knitting (works in progress (WIPs), finished objects (FOs), knitting-related aquisitions, etc.) Think of it like a filmed podcast.
Vlogs are a different thing in knitter-land. Knitting vlogs are more artistic with stylized video shots, background music, etc. I tend to favor the podcast format, but some knitters are VERY into the vlogs. There are typically a lot of published knitting vlogs in December when many knitting podcasters participate in ”Vlogmas,” and in October for “Vlogtober.”
There are some true non-video knitting podcasts, too. The video podcasts are found on YouTube, and the non-video podcasts are found on your favorite podcast app.
The best Knitting Podcasts
The list that follows are the knitting podcasts I watch every time. But I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that there are dozens, if not hundreds, of knitting podcasters out there. There are different vibes and aesthetics so that you can find the ones that resonate with you. Watch one, and YouTube will grace you with a slew of recommendations so that you can find your favorites.
Without further ado, these are the ones that I watch every episode of.
Andrea Mowry is a wealth of knowledge about knitting, and I get so much joy from watching every Friday. It's worth watching the back episodes, too.
I’ll Knit If I Want To is a Q&A style podcast. Andrea answers 5 questions every week, most of which are instructional about knitting techniques.
She also has very clear tutorials available on the channel.
If you choose only one podcast from this list to try, make it this one. I have learned SOOOOOOO much.
Chelsea is a knitter in Oklahoma City. She tells us about her makes and travels every few Sundays. I’m convinced that she and I would be friends in real life.
Paige and Sarah are doctors in Australia. They discuss all of their beautiful makes. It’s like knitting with friends.
In addition to knitting and yarn, Nicole talks about her life in the Pacific Northwest as a math education professor and gives book reviews.
Leanne is a Canadian flight attendant and takes us along on all of her travels.
Lily is an art curator in the Bay Area and shares all of her amazing sweater projects with us.
Traci and Jodi are two knitters in Canada that are so much fun. Their episodes are typically two or three hours long, and they talk about everything. Telling it like it is the whole time. They are a wealth of information about hot new patterns, yarns, and notions, too.
Laura is a knitter and pattern designer in England. It’s lovely to hear about her life and designs when she publishes a podcast.
Sarah is from Madison, Wisconsin, and she has make me actually laugh out loud! Especially in episode 1.
I discovered Leena recently, and I’m so glad that I did! She shares beautiful, bright projects and lovely reflections on life.
