My Knitting WIPs

Below, I’m sharing my current WIPs and latest finishes!

I love having multiple projects on the needles, and I have a method for keeping it interesting without getting overwhelmed if you’re interested.

Knitting Plans

Wool & Honey

This pattern has been around for a while, and then I saw it a few weeks ago and was reinsured. And then Andrea wore it on her podcast the other day, and I thought that I just have to knit this. I have a ton of Manos del Uruguay Fino scraps in my stash, and I’m going to fade my purples and grays. So excited!

Knitting Works in Progress

Le Beret

My 2 year old decided that she wanted to be a blueberry for Halloween. There’s no way she would tolerate wearing a spherical costume, and I’m not up for making one. I found a blueberry jam t-shirt (one of her favorite things), and I made a beret to go with it, reminiscent of a jam jar. I LOVE how it turned out. I held worsted-weight scrap yarn triple, and the result is great! I just need to block it and get photos.

FRIENDS Deception Cardigan

This is faded from sleeve to sleeve. About 5 years ago, Castle View Yarns did a collection inspired by FRIENDS (my favorite). It brought me so much joy during a very dark time. There were 5 minis for each friend, so I have a total of 30. I have displayed them in my yarn cabinet ever since because I didn’t know what I wanted to make with them.

Inspiration finally struck! I wanted to fade a blanket – turns out I only had enough for a lap blanket. I started researching options and landed on Deception & Persuasion pattern by Skeinanigans. And I bought a beautiful FRIENDS purple in Cascade Heritage Sock for the collar to tie it all together and really lean into the theme.

It’s been fun to play with the fade and figure out how much to use of each color to get an even transition from one to the next. It’s definitely working my math brain.

Update 10/12/2025

I’m about halfway through the 4″ neckband, and then I will need to weave in about a million ends. I am LOVING how it’s turning out! If I had it to do all over again knowing what I know now, I would have planned it so that the pinks and purples end up on the fronts instead of the sleeves, but I’m not ripping it back now. I think this is going to get a LOT of wear!

Recently Completed

Tweedy Harlow Flip

I used leftovers of Hedgehog Fibres Tweedy in Noir and Lullaby. The Harlow Flip, which will pair beautifully with my Lullaby Wrap and Noir Weekender.

Ranunculus

I missed the boat on this one, probably because I don’t like the featured photo, but I watched the Black Cat Knit Co podcast where she showed all of her different versions, and now I have to try it!

I made a t-shirt version in Manos del Uruguay Alegria in Aloha. It’s beautiful!

What I loved about knitting the ranunculus

  • All sizes work the yoke exactly the same! Kind of like a Musselburgh. This means that you can get started and check your gauge using the yoke before choosing your size.
  • There are so many variations written into the pattern: sleeve length, short rows (front and back), neck width, etc.
  • Each section is illustrated in the pattern. The visuals were very helpful!

Cautions before you knit a ranunculus

  • Pay attention on the yoke! If you get off by a stitch, you’ll need to rip back so that the lace lines up properly.
  • The yardage requirements in the pattern indicated that a single skein would be perfect for a short sleeve size 3, but it is several inches shorter than intended.

Peggy DRK Everyday Cardi

Andrea Mowry is a master of knitting patterns and knitting advice (see my recommended knitting podcasts list). For this cardigan you can choose the knit-side or purl-side, and as soon as I saw her wear it with the knit-side facing out, I knew I had to make it.

I am LOVING this project. It’s all that I want to work on, and I’m in a flow state when I do – knitting for hours at a time. I added a steek so that I could knit it in the round.

It calls for a sport weight yarn, and I chose Malabrigo Arroyo in Peggy, which I haven’t used in a long time, and I am loving it so much. It is the sport-weight version of Rios, and it’s going to be a new go-to yarn for me.

I can’t wait until this one is finished, I just need to find the perfect buttons!

DRK Everyday Cardi Update 7/20/25

Double-knit button bands are new to me and going much slower than expected. My row gauge is 10% looser than the pattern gauge, so I recalculated the pick up rate and button hole spacing. I am NOT looking forward to weaving in all of the ends – that will be a whole evening.

DRK Everyday Cardi update 9/4/25

I finished a few weeks ago, and it’s beautiful! It was a lot of ends, but I used fun buttons, and I love the look.

What I love about the DRK Everyday Cardi

  • I was in such a flow state while working the collar and yoke. It was so much fun to be so into what I was working on.
  • The color! I loved the yarn I chose.

Cautions if you choose to knit a DRK Everyday Cardi

  • I LOVE the standing collar on the sample, but mine is floppy. I believe this is because I chose a superwash yarn instead of a non-superwash like the pattern recommended. I’m going to experiment with ways that I can give mine more structure.

Hypotenuse Wrap

Like many people, I was swept up into the Half and Half Triangles Wrap craze. And I tell you, it’s a great little lap blanket, but I just can’t do the square shawl. So this is my attempt at a scarf shaped half and half wrap.

Below Horizon Orchid No Me Olvides Merrily Marled Bun Hat

I’m basing this one off of the colors that I used for my aunt’s (below), except I switched out English Rose for Orchid. I like the orchid better than the english rose on its own, but in the hat, english rose might be better. I plan to modify this one to be a bun hat, binding off after the first couple of decrease rounds instead of closing it. I usually wear my hair in a bun, so I think it will be more practical. If it works well, I’ll add it as a variation to the pattern!

Blue Surf Snowbound Turtle Dove Cardigan

Blue surf snowbound turtle dove cardigan

I LOVE to make my own unique yarn by holding multiple strands of yarn together, and I LOVE shopping my stash, and that’s exactly what I’m doing with the Turtle Dove Cardigan. I had enough Malabrigo Lace in Blue Surf to hold double and add 1 strand of Brooklyn Tweed in Snowbound. But I’m playing yarn chicken with the Brooklyn Tweed on the sleeves…

Update 3/21/25: I won yarn chicken! But – I don’t think the fit is for me. I wish I had modified the pattern to divide the sleeves at a normal place. I just don’t think I’ll wear it with such a deep sleeve divide.

Popular Spiral Shlanket

Popular Spiral Shlanket

This is a design in progress. Should we start calling those DIPs? I was inspired by the sleeves on Galinda’s spiral sleeves in her popular dress. I am using an Emma’s Yarn Mo-Slub bundle. So far this ‘shlanket’ is lighter than air. The ‘blanket’ part of the name might get dropped. It might just be a shawl. Stay turned! Update 2/23/25: I’m about to bind off and can’t wait to block it. It is lighter than air!

Update 3/21/25: This turned out so cool! The combo of a slub and mohair really makes the slub and knit stitch anatomy stand out.

Below Horizon English Rose No Me Olvides Merrily Marled

Woman wearing the Merrily Marled Beanie in 3 yarns: Dream in Color Smooshy in Below Horizon and Malabrigo Lace Merino in English Rose and No Me Olvides

I’m knitting another Merrily Marled beanie! I’m partial to this pattern (I wrote it myself) because it fits everyone and it is SO MUCH FUN to play with the colors. I’m going to re-release the pattern based on this version for my aunt. I am so in love with the colors. If I have enough yarn left, I may make an exact copy for me, which I NEVER do. I’ve settled on fingering + lace + lace as my favorite combo, so I want the pattern to reflect that.

Beam Me Up Tinsel Mitts

Tinsel Mitts in Western Sky Willow - Beam Me Up

I made mittens for my toddler since it was so cold and she only wanted to be outside. I had enough yarn left from her newborn mittens, so they match, and I can’t get over it. I plan to make myself some from the same pattern, but I haven’t decided the yarn yet.
