You know what’s lovely? Topping a scoop of ice cream with warm, freshly melted chocolate sauce. Even better? Making just enough for yourself – no leftovers, no cleanup, no sharing required. This single serving of microwave ganache comes together in seconds with just two ingredients.

It’s perfect for topping ice cream, brownies, fruit, or simply eating with a spoon.
Only 2 Ingredients for Single Serving Chocolate Sauce
- Chocolate Chips: Any kind will work, and I love using Ghirardelli Bittersweet Chocolate Chips for their smooth melt and deep flavor.
- Milk or Heavy Cream: Traditional ganache uses cream, but I often use whole milk and still get a rich, glossy result. Use whatever you have on hand.
Directions
- Add chocolate chips to a 1-ounce microwave safe container. (I use an empty jar from a Bonne Maman Advent Calendar.) Fill it nearly to the top.
- Add milk or cream until the liquid almost reaches the top of the chocolate chips. No need to measure – just eyeball it.
- Microwave for 10 seconds.
- Stir gently with something small like a chopstick, metal straw, or spoon handle until the mixture is smooth and fully combined. Keep stirring until the mixture is smooth, glossy, and uniform in color. If it’s too soupy or thin, stir longer rather than reheating.
Serving Suggestions
- Drizzle over a single scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
- Pour on a warm brownie or slice of cake.
- Dip fresh strawberries, pretzels, or anything that might be served alongside a chocolate fountain.
- Enjoy straight from the jar with a spoon – no judgment here.
Tips
- For thicker sauce, use more chocolate or a higher-fat dairy like heavy cream.
- This makes just enough for one dessert – double or triple it if you’re sharing.
- For a flavored twist, experiment with adding a drop of vanilla, a sprinkle of espresso powder, or a pinch of salt before stirring.

Single Serving Chocolate Sauce
This single serving chocolate sauce is a quick, 2-ingredient microwave ganache made with chocolate chips and milk or cream. It's perfect for topping a scoop of ice cream, a brownie, or enjoying with a spoon. No measuring, no mess – just warm, gooey chocolate in seconds.
Equipment
- Microwave
- 1 oz. Jar
Ingredients
- 1.5 tbsp chocolate chips
- 1 tbsp heavy cream or milk
Instructions
- Fill a 1-ounce microwave-safe jar or small cup with chocolate chips.
- Add enough cream or milk so the liquid almost reaches the top of the chips.
- Microwave for 10 seconds.
- Stir gently with a chopstick, metal straw, spoon handle, or similar tool until smooth, glossy, and uniform in color. Enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Type of chocolate: Bittersweet, semisweet, or even milk chocolate chips all work well. Choose what you love.
- Dairy options: Heavy cream is traditional and rich, whole milk creates a slightly thinner sauce. Experiment with your favorite milk, too.
- No re-microwaving needed: keep stirring! You will stir longer than it took to microwave it. The color will be similar to the chocolate chips themselves. If it looks pale and milky, keep stirring.
- Want more? Double or triple the quantities using the same method. Just increase the microwave time proportionately.
- Storage: If you want a sauce, this is best enjoyed right away. If you want an un-fussy truffle, refrigerate and enjoy it with a spoon later.
